1. Purpose

This statement sets out Recreo Consilium's approach to environmental responsibility and sustainability.

2. Our position

Recreo Consilium recognises that good advice should consider long-term value, operational performance and environmental impact. Sustainability should not be treated as a separate marketing theme. It should be considered as part of sound professional judgement.

3. Advisory influence

As an Independent Advisory Practice, Recreo's greatest environmental influence may arise through the advice it gives. Where relevant to an engagement, we should help clients consider energy performance, asset efficiency, whole-life value, resilience, maintenance, operational impact and carbon-related considerations.

  • Consider whole-life cost and operational performance, not only capital cost.

  • Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency where relevant.

  • Challenge assumptions that create unnecessary waste, over-specification or poor long-term outcomes.

  • Recognise the relationship between good maintenance, reliability, efficiency and sustainability.

  • Present environmental considerations proportionately and without overstating certainty.

4. Operational footprint

Recreo's own operational footprint should be managed responsibly and proportionately to the scale of the business. This includes efficient use of energy, digital tools, travel, materials and professional resources.

5. Travel and meetings

Travel should be planned sensibly. In-person attendance remains important where site understanding, client relationships or professional judgement require it. Where remote meetings are appropriate, they should be used to reduce unnecessary travel time, cost and emissions.

6. Digital documents and website content

Recreo should favour digital documentation where practical, while ensuring that documents remain accessible, well structured and easy to use. Large files, unnecessary attachments and inefficient document practices should be avoided where possible.

7. Procurement and suppliers

Where Recreo appoints suppliers, consultants or associates, environmental considerations should be included where relevant and proportionate. Selection should remain balanced with quality, competence, value, availability and client requirements.

8. Avoiding greenwashing

Recreo should not make environmental claims that cannot be evidenced. Sustainability statements should be accurate, proportionate and transparent about assumptions, limitations and areas for improvement.

9. Improvement priorities

  • Develop a simple annual review of business travel and digital working practices.

  • Include sustainability considerations within relevant proposal and report templates.

  • Review website hosting, digital tools and supplier practices as the business grows.

  • Maintain a practical approach focused on measurable improvement rather than superficial claims.

10. Review

This statement should be reviewed at least annually and as Recreo's activities, clients, supply chain and operational footprint develop.
